Single Port, as the name suggests, refers to Single (one) and Port (entry point). Single Port is an advanced type of minimally invasive surgery where a single access point is used to enter the abdomen through the belly button with only one working port (in traditional laparoscopic surgery, more than 3 incisions are typically made, resulting in at least 3 scars on the abdomen).
In Single Port surgery, only one incision is made into the abdominal cavity, leading to better aesthetic outcomes by eliminating any visible scars, as the incision is made at the belly button or “new belly button,” so to speak.
Surgery performed with Single Port results in less pain and a reduced risk of developing a future umbilical hernia (hernia at the belly button).
Single Port technology can be applied in surgeries such as:
- Cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal)
- Hernia repair (herniorrhaphy)
- Appendectomy (appendix removal)
- Fundoplication (reflux correction)
- Colon surgery (Total or partial colectomy)
- Bariatric surgery (Obesity surgery)
